Dresses have become a travel staple for me. They are an effortless way to feel feminine and pulled together on the road. If you are headed to Europe and beyond there is no better way to stay cool and stylish than with one of these 9 best travel dress styles!
Best Travel Dress Styles
Jersey Short-Sleeve Scoop Neck T-Shirt Dress
T-Shirt Dress
It doesn’t get any simpler than the t-shirt dress, but it’s ideal for comfort during travel. If you find yourself stuffed on local food, this dress will be your best friend.
The t-shirt dress also works great on long travel days and you can tuck it into shorts or trousers to use as a top, too. This is easily one of the best travel dress styles for versatility!

Convertible
When it comes to making the most out of your travel wardrobe, convertible dresses are the item for the job! The Chrysalis cardi from Encircled is an ultra versatile piece that can be worn over 8 different ways. We love how it looks as a chic dress, however it can also work as a scarf, a cardigan and a wrap top.

Sleeveless Beach Floral Shift Dress
Shift
Shift dresses are another relaxed style that can work well for day or night depending on shoes and accessories. They’re an easy way to rock a pop of print, and we love the bold flare of the one shown above. Pair with sandals and a crossbody bag for the easiest sightseeing getup.
The key to packing light is to use packing cubes to compress your clothing as shown in this video!
Floral Print Flowy Party Maxi Dress
Maxi
Maxi dresses are a Travel Fashion Girl favorite, and I particularly like the details of the dress shown. This one is boho perfection, and with short sleeves and flowy skirt will hold the summer heat at bay while keeping you stylish.
This style can work in just about any part of the world with a warm and sunny climate and we particularly love it for the beach!
Shirtdress
A crisp shirtdress just screams summer, and this one is in my favorite cut. This style of dress is universally flattering, but shorter ladies may want to go with a higher hemline.
They make me feel instantly pulled together and classic. Don’t be afraid of wearing white when you travel unless you tend to be stain prone at home, too.
Top With Shorts Two Piece Outfit Suit
Two Piece
Similar to convertible dresses, a two piece set is an ultra functional piece to bring along with you on your travels. With at least three outfit options immediately available, you can mix and match these cute pieces to your liking!
Wear them together to rock a stylish romper or pair them with other items for more cute travel outfits. Pair the top with black skinny jeans for a night out, or rock a slouchy white tee with the shorts for a comfier look.
Elasticized Waistline Casual Romper Play-suit
Romper
We love the breezy and effortless vibe that a romper provides. Simply throw one on and you’ve got yourself a full outfit with minimal effort.
Looking for an easy two-in-one on your travels? Rompers also work as a swimsuit coverup. Wear them on the beaches of Nice and play it up or down to your liking.
For a casual sightseeing outfit, pair with white sneakers and a stylish backpack. To dress it up for dinner, rock with booties and a leather jacket.
Tunic
These tunic dresses are adorned in cute details and would be a stylish additional to your summer travels. You can wear them at a summer festival or walking around a beach town.
The Voile Trapeze slip from Free People can work as both a dress and a pretty tank. It’ll also add a pop of boho flare to whatever look you work it into.
LBD
An LBD can be just as much a travel staple as it is a regular closet staple. Whether it’s worn in its simplicity or played up with accessories, they are an easy, chic option that can work for both sightseeing and sunset dinners alike.
The Leith bodycon tank dress is thoroughly loved at Travel Fashion Girl and can be worn in a number of stylish ways – casual, formal and even as a skirt! Simply throw a cropped tee over it to create the illusion of a chic bodycon skirt.
If you are looking for the best travel dress styles for your upcoming trip, one of these options will help you pack light, stay cool, and look lovely, too!

Hi! I love the dress on the cover, any tips or where I can find it?
Hi Lourdes, I am afraid that the image at the top of the article is a stock image so we are not sure of the brand. 🙁
Hi, so pretty =-( Thank you anyway!
Hi Alex,
I love the dress styles you show – they are all so cute.
But I just about only wear dresses to weddings and never wear them when I go out at home. So I doubt I’ll wear them if I pack them for our upcoming spring trip to Italy. I don’t want to add extra weight with dresses that will stay in my suitcase. How do I substitute dresses for tops and bottoms in your packing lists? Would I add a top for every dress and a bottom for every two dresses I omit? Do you have a formula?
Thanks so much,
Patti
Hi Patti, thank you for reaching out! Your aim should always be to dress for your personal comfort level vs trying to blend in. Depending on your preferences you can choose more bottoms, less dresses, more tops – you have the ability to adjust the combination based on your needs. It’s always best to pack more tops than bottoms because a top will create more of an impact to your outfit.
For our essentials 10 piece capsule wardrobe combination, you could pack – 7 Tops + 3 Bottoms instead of the 4 Tops + 4 Bottoms + 2 Dresses featured in the capsule.
Our Classic 12 piece capsule wardrobe combination, you could pack – 8 Tops + 4 Bottoms instead of the 5 Tops + 5 Bottoms + 2 Dresses featured in the capsule.
