Stylish Comfort Shoes for Women
Written By: Laura Pulling
Table Of Contents
If I were to say ‘women’s orthopedic shoes’, some of you may automatically picture an ugly style clog or clunky shoe that is less than attractive. And there was a time that podiatrist recommended shoes were not very pretty! But times have changed, and shoes for problem feet have too! You can now get a ton of fashionable choices and styles.
Firstly though, what actually IS an orthopedic shoe?
Ortho shoes are ones that have been designed to support the foot and leg in order for it to be in the most comfortable position for walking. They usually have a hard sole to be supportive, a removable lining—so that you can add your own special insoles if needed, come in different widths—for comfort and to accommodate different foot problems, and a firm heel counter (that’s the bit that envelopes the heel of your foot).
Support shoes are great for everyone—foot problems or not—as we know how TFG readers love to rack up the miles exploring places. So we’ve rounded up the most stylish supportive shoes that your feet will LOVE!
Best Orthopedic Slip On Shoes
A slip on style is great for an easy fit, quick to put on, and if you’re somebody that struggles to get your feet into a tight shoe due to your foot problems. No laces, no zippers, no worries!

They’re anatomically designed to support the arch and heel, with a total support footbed which gives you the ultimate level of comfort and support.
You can get these comfortable flats with arch support in so many different colors. One wearer shares, “ I love them and they are very comfortable, they just seem to go with everything and are a very easy shoe to wear in the summer when I need something other than a sandal.”

One of readers favorite brand is these Ryka tennis shoes with arch support. They slip on easily and are modern in their design (offered in classic neutrals black, grey, and navy). Designed for a woman’s unique foot shape, muscle movement, and build with a narrower heel, roomier toe, and softer foot cushioning.
One wearer shares, “It’s like a gentle hug. Holds foot snug but moves with foot. Perfect sizing, removable inserts, great look! My feet hurt a great deal. I even go to physical therapy and a podiatrist for my feet and nothing fixes the ongoing problem. So, as you can imagine, comfortable shoes are hard to come by. This one is the best so far. I have two pairs, and will probably get more if needed.”

Coming in a variety of colors, the Propét slip-on is touted as a savior for feet. This shoe is crawling with EVA support, from the midsole (with heel cushion), all the way to the outsole which combines rubber and EVA so you have ultimate comfort and traction with the tread pattern.
You can also remove the footbed if you wanted to put it in your own insole! One compelling review could make these the best shoes for foot problems. “I have more metal in my feet than when Wall-E is left to clean up the earth. Needless to say, this makes shoe shopping as difficult as a relationship with a robot. I happened upon these, read a few reviews, and for the price figured l didn’t have much to lose. They haven’t left my feet except for sleeping in a week.”
Another review says, “I have problem feet—high arches, a tendency toward plantar fasciitis if I’m not careful, and poor circulation that often shows up as swollen feet. I have a hard time finding comfortable shoes. Frustrated, I came to Amazon and gambled on the reviews. I wasn’t disappointed. I put these therapeutic shoes on and they were comfortable right away! No rubbing. No blisters. No need for socks. But great arch support and a firm sole that keeps me motoring around in comfort even on hard surfaces.”

The day that I received them I immediately put them on and started to walk, and I’ll be darned if I didn’t notice a difference within the first few steps. GAME CHANGER! How to Pack Orthopedics Shoes
Now that you’ve found the best styles for you, it’s time to pack those orthotic walking shoes for your next trip! Start by selecting a container such as a shoe bag or a packing cube, then pack according to your type of luggage. See more in the video below.
Watch this video to start learning how to organize with packing cubes!
Whether you have a front loading or top loading backpack, it’s crucial to put your shoes first, at the bottom. If you’re planning to pack shoes in a rolling carry-on, remember that it stands sideways, so it’s important to note how it functions when it is upright. Most often, your shoes will need to be packed close to the wheels, so that the luggage maintains its balance in transit. This is the secret to packing carry-on only!

Love the Dr. Scholl’s and they were perfect for my week in Italy!
I can vouch for the Ryka Echo Knit shoes being comfortable right out of the box.
They’re easy to slip into but hug the heel enough so there’s no moving up and down with each step leading to blisters.
The toe box is roomy, and these shoes were comfortable both with and without socks. And I have VERY sensitive feet!
I wore these on my trip to Morocco, in the bazaars, on the pavement, and in the Sahara Desert!! I LOVE TFG recommendations. ❤️
Thank you for doing the research. Love that there are comfortable AND stylish shoes and boots for those of us with a LOT of travel each month.
Love my Birkenstocks! They are great around my house to support my feet and I always take them traveling too! I have also purchased the plastic type Birkenstock sandals too for my trips to Belize – work great along the ocean and in sand. No worries about getting them wet!
Oofus, Vionic and Skechers are my go to but excited to try the brands featured here. Thank you TFG!
I can’t tell you how much I appreciate this article! I have metatarsal issues – and now plantar fasciitis – ugh. Your email is marked VIP (Apple girls will get it…) and the ONLY newsletter that is a VIP – I can’t tell you how helpful your shoe selections are for me!
It’s always fascinating to me what shoes people find comfortable. One person’s comfort shoe is another’s persons “oh my gosh my feet are sore!” shoe. That’s one of the reasons I go to your lists – there’s something for everyone. I was surprised not to see the classic Merrell shoes that just about every walker I know has – Kahuna or Siren sandals. I buy a new pair every couple of years!
Birkenstock has been my go-to for years. I have about 6 pairs but need to replace the ones with the backstrap, which are hard to find. I love getting all the recommendations from this site!
Thanks so much for this helpful article. I have the most sensitive feet ever, and almost everything creates hot spots – not good ever but especially not when traveling! I can’t wait to check these out and see if I can find a good fit. Thanks to you, I found Taos sandals for my trip earlier this year to Greece and Italy – fingers crossed I’ll get lucky again.
Diagnosed with fasciitis recently, I unearthed my college-age Birkenstock Arizonas from our basement storage – they still hold up as wonderfully supportive and unbelievably durable. I got a restoration kit at the local shoe shop to give them a re-set and they are back on my feet and on my travel packing list. Thank you, Barbie, for reminding me that I proudly chose Birkenstocks many years ago!
I wish I’d seen this blog sooner. I’m trying to be better about wearing shoes that won’t cause pain in my feet, and now I have a ton to choose from! Thank you, TFG for doing the searching and vetting for me!
I have lots of foot issues and the orthopedic shoes ae best for me. Thanks for showing me options and helping me see they don’t have to look like orthopedic shoes!
I sooo appreciate how you bring this invaluable info to the world aka me! lol This is the only blog I devoutly follow and even got my mama on board.
I also discovered the beauty of Vionics here. Claps for the blog 🙂
Vionic are my absolute go-to brand, but sometimes I just want a change. I refer to these posts over and over so I can get some ideas forother shoes that are also good for plantar fasciitis.
For some reason I can never just wear something from my closet when I go on a new adventure! 🙂
I’ve been following your blog for years now…..and can proudly say that I travel with only a carry-on, thanks to your advice!
I love my naot sandals. I never would have heard about them or tried them of it weren’t for TFG’s recommendation! Thank you for helping us all travel better and stylishly!
Birkenstock is definitely my go to for Euro summer. The cobbled streets just don’t agree with other sandals.
Discovered Taos because of this site- have 2 sandals – but looking into the star tennis shoe for upcoming trip – thanks for the advice!
Clarks are great travelling shoes! Also, I love Dr. Scholl’s custom orthotics for all my other shoes. They fit great in regular Converse and booties, and I can walk all day in them. They have kiosks in tons of locations (in Canada anyway), and once you know your number, you can reorder them online.
Travel Fashion Girls has been my go to for every thing. I read something posted on Travel Fashion girls at least every day to research whatever it is I am needing! I find the women on here inspirational, caring and so helpful! I love all of the guidance on this wonderful website! Thank you, Alex, for starting this website and group!
Travel Fashion Girl has been my girl-guide to comfort shoes and clothing, since I started traveling globally and this post was very helpful since i was afflicted with plantar fasciitis last year, corrected by custom inserts in shoes. Perhaps a future post could list some travel/hiking shoes with removable soles, as that’s all I am able to wear. The Hokas recommended here are like walking on a cloud (and they have removable insoles) and you can’t go wrong with Birkinstocks! Another brand that’s been great for me is Ecco. Keep up the great ideas.
Thanks for the great footwear suggestions. After spending a lifetime walking, I am now facing surgery due to severe arthritis in my big toes. Will need to get all new shoes after the surgery. These suggestions will help me focus.
Joya shoes, they’re Swiss. Worth every penny. If you need arch support and a *lot* of cushion, these are the ones! I spend a lot of my day on hard surfaces and feel like I am bouncing along. Similar in feel to Hokas but have a large range of shoe styles (not so much trainers/sneakers).
Thank you for sharing your recommendation for comfy shoes with us Mara, always love discovering new brands from our readers!
I have converted to Frankie4 and Bared Footwear shoes for the past few years and they’re awesome. Frankie4 sneakers/trainers are awesome and they have great ballet flats and ankle boots. Bared have more fashionable styles with beautiful heels and boots. Both are designed by podiatrists in Australia. Pricey, but good wearability and worth their weight in gold in foot health.
Thank you so much for taking the time to share your feedback with us Sophie! Always love hearing about our readers recommendations especially for footwear 🥰
My podiatrist highly recommended the FitFlop brand. I’ve tried their slides and sandals and they have been excellent for my problematic feet. The styles that have the thicker soles have the best cushion and support.
Also, though not stylish, if you’re looking for one of the best casual slides, you can’t go wrong with OOFOS. They are APMA approved and for good reason. I wear their recovery sandals around the house and have worn them all over Hawaii on long walks with happy feet!
Hi Francine, thank you for sharing your recommendation with us. Our biggest advice is always to choose comfort over style when picking walking shoes! ?
I love your page/blog. Still getting used to reading it on the blog. I always love your posts and usually try one or two items for myself. Some are amazing and some are duds for me, but everyone is different. Especially with shoes.
I had a botched foot surgery years ago, and the only shoes I can wear are Oofos. I wish they would make them more stylish….
Appreciate the recommendations for brands AND how to pack them!
I love these articles and the info actually useful. Could you please include brief explanation of how you determine what items are recommended? For example, surveys? If so, how many people surveyed? Other sources?
Thank you very much.
Hi Andrea, thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us! ?
