Shopping for new sandals for summer vacation? Refresh your vacation wardrobe with these five styles!

Sandals for Summer

Written By: Niki Landry

Around this time every year I go through the same process–researching and shopping for my perfect sandals for summer vacation. This year, I’m replacing my favorite (but super worn) gold ankle strap sandals.

Now these aren’t your average walking sandals. These are the styles that you bring to dress up your look, not go sightseeing. (For sightseeing sandals, try these.)

Start by reading these general tips on packing for summer travel:

While on the hunt for my next pair of shoes, I came across an abundance of stylish, travel-friendly sandals and I’ve compiled a list below.

Hopefully this sandal roundup of the best shoe styles for summer travel will help you narrow down your options and give you a guide on what to look for in your next purchase.

When researching and sourcing sandal options for this post, I noticed that many of this season’s shoe trends crossed over categories. For instance, you can find a metallic block heel that ties at the ankle.

You’ll see that many of the styles listed below can check off a few trends with just one shoe. It’s a nice way to get the most shoe for your money. Here’s our roundup of the best sandals for summer vacation:

Slides

I’ve long preferred to wear a slide sandal as a casual shoe option in the summer as opposed to a flip-flop. The style is still minimalist, but it’s a little more versatile when going from denim shorts to a cute summer dress.

I love the look and simplicity of a two-strap sandal, either in metallic leather or with a braid detail. For a little more style, there are ruffled, knotted, or bowed slide options that add a bit of femininity to your travel outfits.

We’ve got the scoop on the best slide sandals of the season!

Block

Trending in full force is the block heel shoe. It’s comfortable, stylish, and transitional, making it one of my favorites and the only heel that I bring on my travels. You can keep your summer block heels simple with a skinny strap around the ankle and toe.

These are available in every neutral and easy to find in a range of price points. If you’re feeling adventurous, pastel and muted colored sandals are really popular this season. Combine the two and you’ll find yourself with a stylish option to spice up a neutral travel wardrobe.

If your travels call for some heels, here are lots of comfy heels to choose from!

Animal

Animal print shoes are still holding on this season, but they seem to have taken a backseat to other trends. They’re still important to mention, though, because animal prints are one of the most versatile patterns.

They add texture and interest to capsule wardrobes and are easy to pair with any neutral and most colors. The sandal styles above offer a modern take on some of the more travel-friendly animal prints.

Metallic

It’s definitely metallic shoes’ time to shine (pun intended) in the fashion world. Soft gold, silver, and rose-gold leather or fun mirrored-finish sandals are showing up in every store. I always have one metallic shoe in my closet for every season, and summer is no different.

Similar to animal print in its versatility, metallic shoes are a no-brainer when it comes to travel. When in doubt, pack a pair of simple gold sandals for a shoe that can be worn with every outfit.

This roundup is a great way to introduce metallic clothing and accessories into your travel wardrobe!

Platform

In lieu of the traditional summer wedge, I chose to highlight the platform sandal as a more travel-friendly option. The lower rise and flat bed of the platform shoe is obviously a more comfortable choice when exploring new destinations during your travels.

The cork or espadrille base is an added detail that brings texture to your summer outfits.

Stylish espadrilles are the perfect sightseeing shoe of the summer. Here are our must-have espadrilles shoes!
