There are many anti-theft products on the market but some of them are more challenging to conceal than others. Anti-theft neck wallets and neck pouches are ideal for larger items such as passports but they can be bulky. Wondering how you wear a neck wallet? Here’s how!

Anti-Theft Neck Wallet

Travel Fashion Girl help! A reader asks:

“I’m off to Paris and London on Friday and taking hidden neck pouches to hold my larger cash and having smaller amounts in my wallet. My big question is, what is the best way to hide one? It seems somewhat visible under my top, so does anyone have any tips?”

Even a seasoned traveler can easily become a victim by getting too comfortable. An anti-theft neck pouch can help you prevent a theft and make you feel safer knowing your wallet and passport are safe and secure.

What is a neck wallet?

A neck wallet (also called a “neck pouch”) is an anti-theft device you can wear underneath your clothing to carry items such as cash, cards, and passports. Never wear anti-theft items on the exterior of your clothing.

Why wear a neck wallet?

Every traveler’s nightmare is losing their passport or having it stolen. Wherever you travel, losing your passport can completely ruin your trip and make it difficult for you to get home. Keeping your passport hidden under your clothes using a device like a neck wallet protects it from pick pockets or other theft.

Note: do not carry your passport around while sightseeing unless it’s not possible to lock it in your suitcase or lock it in a safe in your accommodation. Read this article on how to keep your passport safe for more information.

Wear It as a Crossbody

One of the easiest ways to wear an anti-theft neck pouch is as a crossbody. One reader shares, “I wear mine like a crossbody under my shirt, and then tuck the strap into my bra strap on my shoulder. I found that I didn’t really notice it under my arm but it bothered me in the front. Not as noticeable in pictures either!”

Her tip for making the bag less visible? “I put it so the top is in line with the top of my bra on the side. The one I have is flat and wide, and I think my side is more flat than my front so it lays between my armpit and my waist.”

Wear It Around Your Waist

Even though anti-theft neck pouches are designed to be worn around your neck, you can get creative and try wearing it elsewhere. One reader says, “I have put neck pouches around my waist under skirts, dresses or pants.”

You may need to pin it or tuck it in, but this is a great alternative if you’re wearing a looser blouse with thin straps that can’t easily hide neck straps. As one reader says, “I wear a money pouch around my waist, on the inside of my jeans or pants, and secured additionally with a huge safety pin. Yes, the system gives me a poofy stomach, but generally my shirt somewhat conceals the poof.”

I’ve recently tried another product and I’m really excited about it! It’s called the Bra Stash.

Hook It Around Your Belt

Similar to wearing it around your waist, a great option for how to wear a neck wallet is to loop it around your belt. This can make it even more secure when you want to wear your pouch around your waist.

One reader shares, “I got the one that hooks onto your belt and just wear it under my pants. It doesn’t create bulky lines. I just wouldn’t keep a passport in there for excessive periods because it will bend. Credit cards and ID cards do just fine though.”

Wrap It Around Your Ankle

Traveling to a cold location and wondering how to wear an anti-theft neck wallet? One reader is particularly crafty and shared, “When it was colder, I wrapped it around my leg inside my boot.”

While you don’t want to wrap it too tightly around your ankle and cut off circulation, this is a great way to store it in a tall boot. Just make sure it’s a waterproof boot so you don’t ruin anything!

Hide It Under a Scarf

One reader recommends wearing it as a scarf, with another adding, “a scarf is a good idea to hide it!” Not only does a scarf add style to your outfit, but it can cover the straps of the wallet.

For extra protection and minimal visibility, first pull the neck pouch under your top. Then layer with a dark-colored scarf so you can’t see the pouch.

Additional Tips for Wearing an Anti-Theft Neck Wallet

Our readers also shared some great tips on keeping your belongings secure:

  • “I carry one credit card and an estimated needed amount of cash for the day in my purse/crossbody bag for easy access. Other credit cards, cash, and passport are tucked into my secured anti-theft neck pouch.”
  • “When traveling as a couple, make sure each of you have enough cash on you in case you get separated. Also, don’t put all the spare cash in one spot in case anything does happen, you won’t lose it all!”

Compass Rose RFID Secret Bra Wallet

Try our to use a Secret Bra Wallet

My new line is called Compass Rose and the second product in the collection is the Secret Bra Wallet. The fabric is the same as a bra so it’s soft and comfortable to wear even in the heat and humidity of Rome in the summer.

This is the ONLY bra stash made with an extra long strap to fit DD+cup sizes and a range of bra band widths. PLUS,  it’s also the only bra stash with RFID protection.

Fasten it to your bra strap, on your bra band under your arm or in between your bra cups, or attach it to your belt loop tucked into your pants. You can even attach it to some underwear styles, too. Tuck it in underneath your bra for extra security – that’s how I wear mine.

It’s absolutely amazing and convenient–even more so than my trusty money pouch, because it also fits my credit cards. By wearing it under my arm instead of in front of my bra, it doesn’t bulge through my shirt or chafe my chest.
