How to Wash Tennis Shoes
When it comes to keeping your cute tennis shoes clean, it really depends on the material your shoes are made of. Some fabric or textile shoes can be washed on a cold water setting and then air dried; just remember to place them in a mesh bag and remove the laces and insoles.
However, if your shoes are leather or suede, it’s best to clean them with a specific product that cleans leather and suede, which can be found on Amazon or at shoe stores. Another tip is to read the reviews on washing instructions before you buy a particular shoe.
How to Pack Those Cute and Casual Tennis Shoes
Now that you have some idea on choosing the right tennis shoes for you, it’s time to pack them! Maybe you want to store your shoes after wearing them on the plane or choose to wear a different pair home, start by selecting a container such as a shoe bag or a packing cube, then pack according to your type of luggage. See more in the video below.
Watch this video to start learning how to organize with packing cubes!
Whether you have a front loading or top loading backpack, it’s crucial to put your shoes first, at the bottom. If you’re planning to pack shoes in a rolling carry-on, remember that it stands sideways, so it’s important to note how it functions when it is upright. Most often, your shoes will need to be packed close to the wheels, so that the luggage maintains its balance in transit.

Comfortable is a must but cute on top of comfort is awesome.. Thanks for sharing good to know.
My friend swears by Allbirds, but I’m a Skechers girl.
Great info! I have several pairs of these.
I wore Adidas Stan Smith shoes during a June 2022 trip to Germany, Czech Republic, and Austria. They were comfortable for walking and looked great with each outfit. I lace these loosely, so I can slip the shoes on/off. Since these were my only closed toe shoe, I wore these for hiking up/down a mountain in Germany. (Would not recommend for this activity.)
I got the white Ecco leather sneakers for a trip to Spain, Morocco and Portugal in 2019 and loved them so much I just got a second pair. Just found a pair of Superga mules that I can’t wait to see if they’re as comfy. Also love Sorels either the wedge for looking a little dressier (sandals and boots) but they take up more space in packing. Still looking for that perfect flat that’s cute AND has good arch support. Love your website and FB page. Thanks!
Thank you for this review! Comfortable shoes are a big part of what makes a trip enjoyable for me. Cranky feet=cranky me!
I love checking out the posts on Travel Fashion Girl before I make a purchase. They have done all the research for me . I also so appreciate the reviews. Thank you for sharing your knowledge & experience!! 🙏🏻😊
My favorites are new balance 515’s. Just did 5 weeks in europe and wore them every day. Walked miles and miles with no foot, back, knee or leg issues. And I’m old! (75!) have had plantar fasciitis too.
I’m going to try the wool Allbirds for a winter trip. Thanks for all the great information
I love my Taos shoes but they did take awhile to break in.
I vote for Hoya Clifton 8. They are the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn, and they have a lot of choices to match your capsule wardrobe.
I’m overwhelmed by all of the choices, but thanks for this list that narrows it down to the tried and true. I think I’m going to go with Allbirds but I bought an Ecco sandal that is soooo comfy based on recommendations here, so I might try those too.
As someone with wide “Fred Flintstone” feet, it can be challenging to find comfortable shoes. Thank you for all of the suggestions. Looks like I’m going shopping!
Love my Taos canvas sneakers with the zip pet AND my Ecco Soft 7s. Not only comfortable but lighter weight for travel than a lot of other sneakers.
I have been following you for a while, and purchased very comfortable sandals for long walks. I’m still in search for a cute white walking sneakers. Thank you Alex for all the work you do to help us travelers have comfortable walks!
I can always count on these trusted recommendations from Travel Fashion Girl – thank you for all you do!
I also find the comment section worth reading. So many great suggestions from readers too!
Thanks for your recommendations on good shoes! Having had two foot surgeries, it’s a battle for me to find comfortable shoes. I finally decided on the Skechers Go Walk sneakers.
Oh, the magic combo of adidas cloudfoam paired with alternating days of Oofos Oomg sneakers. I love them both so much and i have stopped getting blisters on high-step-count days because of these amazing shoes!
I love my Allbirds and had no idea they existed until I read a few of your articles! Thank you TFG!!!!!!
The tennis shoes that Birkenstock’s make. Amazing! First day I wore was on a trip to Montreal. Walked almost 30,000 steps and my feet didn’t hurt at all. Put them on day two and did another 20,000 steps. I was trying to break them in for Europe but no breaking in necessary. I highly recommend
I love my Ecco Soft 7 but am anxious to try some others as well! Thank you for all the fabulous info you provide. Wouldn’t want to travel without it
I have worn the Skechers Go Walk all over Europe and they were great. Getting ready for a trip to Portugal and was told to wear something with grip due to the cobblestone being slippery. I bought 2 pairs, a pair of ECCO and a pair of Skechers Work Cushlep-Runie- slip resistant. Time will tell
My leather ecco soft 7s are great but they did require me to break them in (might just be because I have a bunion). Once they were broken in they were super comfy.
Highly suggest Hoka tennis shoes! Amazing cushion for those long walks while traveling.
Love all the recommendations given. I can’t wait to try a few as I have a trip coming up where I’ll want something casual and comfortable.
Looking forward to trying some of these favorites. There are recommendations from familiar brands, and brands that are new to me. Always open to tried & true favorites.
Looking forward to trying several of the shoes listed! A few a have and they have not worked for me but…..everyone’s feet are different!! Happy Travels!!!♥️
I love my allbirds, so much I wore a hole in them on the side this past weekend (I have owned them for years, and bought them used on Poshmark) Totally going to buy a new pair and I can’t wait to try the tree runners!
You’re missing AllBirds! They’re seriously lightweight and comfortable!
I love my Adidas Cloudfoams and look forward to trying some of the other recommended styles!
After seeing recommendations from this site went to the Allbirds store and the shoes are so comfortable, will be taking on my next trip!
I absolutely love the look and fit of the leather Ecco 7’s ❤️ They are holding up very well after miles and miles of walking thru Europe! Thanks for the recommendation of these – I hadn’t heard of this style!
I can confirm that the Ecco 7 are my favorite!!
Thanks for this post!
Allbirds are the best out-of-the box comfort for any sneaker I’ve ever bought (actually pretty much any shoes I’ve ever bought). I love the feel. However they are a little on the flimsy side, especially for the price point. And the white is impossible to restore once dirty, even after washing per directions. I will try a darker color because I do love the fit.
Skecher’s Go Walk tennis shoes are extremely comfortable. Can’t go wrong with these and they are very light weight and don’t take up much room in the suitcase.
I love those Cole Haan sneakers! So lightweight and comfortable. They’ll be traveling to Paris with me in October!
Thank you for these great suggestions!! I am getting over Achilles tendinitis and these shoes look like a great place to find shoes with good support!
I love the sketchers, good price, super comfortable, lightweight, and they look really good. I will use them at the airport, on the plane and for long walks. Thanks for your recommendation!
I have many vionic sneakers and can attest to their comfort and support. My problem feet have no problems in them.

i personally love sketchers. the puma ones were pretty good also. and while Keds are so popular they’ve just never worked for me. my mom loves her asics.
but all of the shoes on the list are actually great choices. very popular & wide range of prices depending on your budget.
Love my adidas cloud forms— never would have known about them without TFGs!!
Thank you for the suggestions!
Thanks for the great recommendations!
I’ve tried several pairs from this list through the years and definitely recommend the All Birds- the Tree Runners arrived 3 days before my trip to Turkey so I didn’t have time to break them in before throwing them in my suitcase. Luckily, it didn’t matter with these because they were comfortable and ready to go when I wore them a few days after arriving. No break it time needed!
I’m always needing comfy shoes! Thanks for the recommendations!
I bought OnCloud tennis shoes because of the TFG FB page. I love them. I took them to Italy this summer to see our family, I wear them when I walk my dog in the morning, they are ahhhmazing
I have purchased several pairs of excellent travel shoes thanks to TFG’s Facebook group. The Ecco sneaker tennis shoes are a new favorite. Thanks for all the helpful information!
I’ve followed Travel Fashion Girl for years now and have frequently used reviews before purchasing. I bought the Taos sneakers and love them! I have a hard time finding shoes with enough support and these are great. Thank you for all of the great information that I’ve used from your site.
I love all of these shoes! Will probably buy several pair!
These are great recommendations but I’m looking for waterproof shoes for our December River Cruise to the Christmas Markets along The Rhine
I love Skechers. I have sandals, boots, sneakers and flats. Aways comfortable. Congratulations on 10th anniversary! TFG has improved my travel comfort immensely! Love you and your crew. You have sweet little girl. Congratulations on being a mom!
Travel Fashion Senior
I love Dr Scholls. Thanks for lore options.
I am still looking for the perfect comfy tennis shoe. I did purchase the black superga canvas. I like this for my errands, but I don’t think I would like them for over 10K steps a day…
Still looking for mine. Thanks for all your suggestions.
I love this blog. I have learned so much about traveling light. Thank you
Thanks so much, this is very helpful! Now, I’m off to find the perfect shoe to wear in Italy!
Super helpful info! Thanks for compiling the information. Now I’m off to find the perfect pair!
My current favorite is Mephisto Women’s Laser Perf in Light Grey/Silver. They look great with my skinny ankle jeans, and don’t just look like an exercise shoe. I have very high arches – these only have moderate arch support but have plenty of room for a high arch and are very comfortable.
Hi Jennifer, thank you for sharing your great review of the Mephisto Women’s Laser Perf shoes!! 🙂
Thank you for the info!! This the one thing I have left to do and I’m scared to to make the wrong choice! Lol now I have a great place to start!
I finally decided I’m just going to bring the running shoes for our trip to Italy this summer. I’m hoping the Addidas Ultra Boosts I just ordered will work– cuter than Asics, hopefully wider than Nike flyknit in the toes. I have all the good sandals, but what else other than a running shoe is going to get me through a full day of sightseeing in Rome? Last time I did that, we walked about 10 miles! And that was 20 years ago before my feet (and everything else!) hurt. I won’t wear them to dinner or on our more leisurely days. And I’m going to have to construct an outfit around them. True running shoes (as opposed to Supergas, converse) look horrid with dresses or even fancier tops. So shorts and tshirt it is. It’s not like they can’t tell we’re American anyway- my 6’3″ husband in a baseball cap takes care of that for us.
Hi Stephanie, thank you for sharing this with me! Hope you find the Addidas ultra boosts comfortable and enjoy them on many adventures! Have a fantastic trip!
What about supergass. Heard they ate hot and I want to try a pair.
Hi Carrie, have a look at my review of Superga sneakers: https://www.travelfashiongirl.com/superga-sneakers-review/ Hope this helps! 🙂
Based on several posts in TFG I got the On Cloud waterproof sneakers. I love them. Great support, really comfortable, and they have these small light strips on the outer edges that give me some protection when walking during dark mornings.
Be comfy dont let europeans dictate. Its your trip 🙂
Hi Terry, thank you for taking the time to share your insight! 🙂
I’m very confused I want to bring a pair of tennis shoes or sneakers to my summer trip to Europe. I’m deciding between a Nike Free RN or some olive green Keds. I have never been a person interested in fashion, but I have no idea which of these two options is more appropriate, I would like advice!
Hi Deni, thank you for your question! Have a look at these articles on travel shoes: https://www.travelfashiongirl.com/best-walking-shoes-for-europe/ https://www.travelfashiongirl.com/20-comfortable-and-cute-walking-shoes-for-travel/ Either option would be fine, it is what you are comfortable in wearing which matters most! Hope this helps 🙂
Thank you very much!!! I think this time I’ll prefer to stay comfy 🙂
Hi Deni, thank you so much for replying. Great choice! 🙂
In Russia everyone wears sneakers and takes it to holidays. So do I. I was just looking for a perfect pair of lightwight yet durable ones for my RTW trip. Thanks for advice!
You’re welcome Maria! I’m glad it’s helped!
Very American, sneakers for travelling abroad.
It’s a good thing it was written by a European and not an American then 😉
On a trip this summer I saw a lady wearing comfy looking sneakers with an animal print sole. They were so cute! She said they were APL Techloom which I’d never of. I researched and they’re about $250 which is pricey but I would consider because after 2 foot surgeries, I am kind to my feet. But would love to know if they’re supportive and comfortable for lots of walking?
In Europe, especially in the UK there’s a new trend about trainers. Young fashionable people wear them with skinny jeans rolled up and colourful socks. It’s the trend of the moment 🙂
And it’s very comfortable! If your feet hurt the trip is not enjoyable. My favs are the Adidas. They are slipons and the gray goes with almost everything.
