Plasters/bandages

Wow, so many good choices! I ordered the Ecco and Dr Scholl’s to try. I need wide (toe box) so hopefully these work!
After trying on the uber-popular Adidas Sambas and loving the LOOK–but not loving the FEEL, for all-day walking and sightseeing–I tried the Adidas SL 72 RS… and found a winner!! It has a similarly sleek, old-school look to the Sambas (as well as Gazelle and SL 72 OG), but with a slightly-elevated heel… meaning more cushion AND more comfort for the Achilles area. (If you can’t wear completely flat shoes for any length of time, you’ll know what I mean.) For sizing, I took a half-size smaller than my normal sneaker size (even accounting for wearing cushy socks), and bought a pair of gel heel pads to fill out the heel portion for my super-skinny heels. Wore these all over Paris, and could not have been happier! 🙂
Comfortable shoes are a travel must. Thanks for the suggestions!
Great help! I have used sketchers and black Nike’s. Looking forward to trying he Allbirds.
I have the black waterproof Vessi tennis shoes. They’re great and comfy! I took them on a trip to Amsterdam and the Netherlands, in early spring.
Just bought the Naturalizers. They look as great as some of the others at a fraction of the roces and come in Wide!! Thank upi!
Thank for the info. I have been looking for black sneakers for an upcoming trip.
Congrats on 13 years with your passion project! I, for one, am extremely grateful you brought together this amazing caring and kind community of (mostly) women!
I’m also in the market for a pair of black slip-on sneakers. My Ugg Alameda sneaks re starting to look worn. So I’m very thankful for a consolidated list of group favorites. 😀
I am planning on bringing a pair of black tennis shoes on my upcoming trip to Paris as an option along with ballet flats and ankle boots. I ordered some satin shoe laces to make them look a bit dressier. The satin shoelaces are in a caramel color.
The band-aid blister bandages are a life saver for my diabetic feet !
The Taos Plim Soul Lux black leather sneakers are the perfect shoe if you want that Converse/Vans aesthetic; and you can dress them up or down.
Not often mentioned bc they aren’t super cute but I live in my Brooks Ghost Max. They come in wide widths, easily take orthotics and have max cushioning for sensitive feet. And a low toe heel drop if you need that.
I have found my Dr. Scholls sneakers to be the most comfortable for travel.
I have multiple pairs of black Skecher sneakers – I find them so great for travelling because they’re comfortable, look good, and can look reasonably dressy. Some trips I’ve gotten away with one pair of shoes because of that.
Love my Cariuma (leather, OCA Low sneakers). And Puma no show socks were a game changer for me.
I’ve been searching desperately to replace a favorite pair of black high tops for travel, put off by the trend of white soles on black sneakers. Why not black on black for a much sneaker look? Settled on some waterproof All birds which are a little clunkier looking out of the box than I expected. I’ve yet to wear them, but I guess as long as they’re comfortable….
I’ve been looking for a pair of good travel walking sneakers that are also cute. I picked my sandals based off one of your articles so I’m so happy to have this list to narrow the search!!
Leaving today on my trip to Finland . I brought black shoes . Need them for comfort as well of my issues with my feet. My foot doctor recommended Hokas as the best choice. Thanks for your article .
I have a narrow heel, high arch, low volume forefoot with long-ish toes. I have tried so many shoes and now am finally finding some that work well for my lifestyle. I travel, workout (weight training and Pilates, and volunteer. I cannot wear Vionic, Taos, New Balance, Clark’s, Dr Scholls and a few others as they are way too wide all over and will give me blisters. Here are some that might work for those like me who need a lightweight shoe for different purposes:
– Reef. I’m a recent fan. Plenty of toebox room without being too roomy all over. Nice lace pattern allows cinching for my high arches. Great arch support without adding inserts. I now have these in grey and black.
– Ecco. My standards and hope they won’t ever change.
– AllBirds. I ordered a pair of charcoal gray wool a few years ago and loved them so much I bought a white pair to wear in Italy last year. They were great along with a pair of Ecco Flowt sandals
– Asics Gel Kayano. These were my running shoes for years. I can’t run anymore due to a rod in my femur but I still love these right out of the box. Have to size up a full size.
I’m also experimenting with minimalist shoes. They are great for your posture and foot strength and health. Treat your feet well, ladies. Read up on why people walk stooped over and have trouble with their feet and back as they age. When you get to be an old person, you will not regret it.
My feet are similar to yours. Narrow heel but M width. Try Ryka as they are made specifically for women, and have a narrow heel, but room in the toe box.
I like my Ecco 7 with anAetrex insert. I am always on the look out for the perfect black sneaker that can go from morning through casual evening. Thanks
I LOVE my black ECCO Soft 7 leather sneakers. Have worn them all over France, Italy and England. Comfortable right out of the box. Very classy and cute.
I’m so happy you included the Vessi. I brought these shoes to a week in NY and didn’t need anything else!
I like my black Ryka sneakers. I add arch support if it’s going to be a long day.
I have the Cole Haan sneakers and love them – highly recommend!
Nice to see people like black sneakers too!
I absolutely love my black Vessi’s! I purchased online after reading your review. I wish they would be available in Australia!
Great list! Always on the lookout for a great pair of black sneakers!
These are all super cute!
Socks are so important plus arch supports. These are great suggestions!
I love the Ecco Soft 7 they’re my go to sneaker for Europe travel and around town.
I can’t wear several,of these brands because the heels are too wide. In some cases the fit of Vionic, Taos, and Dr Scholls and a few other brands are too wide for my foot in general. ECCO shoes fit me fairly well and do have a fairly roomy toe box without being too wide. However a couple of years ago I decided to try All Birds and I have finally found ‘my’ shoe. I wore a pair in Italy and alternated with my Ecco sandals. My feet were happy. I’d like to suggest adding a general description of the fit of some of these shoes should always be added.
I have wasted so much time ordering and returning shoes that turn out to be too wide. It is discouraging. And I live in a fairly large city where there isn’t much available to actually try on sometimes.
Black sneakers are my favorite and seem to go with so many things. I love my Hoka’s but not the most fashionable. I have found the key to great feeling shoes is good socks. Socks can make your feet sweaty and blisters. Drying socks really make a huge difference!!
I have both the Reef and the Vionic sneakers and love both of them. Very comfy with great arch support, although the Vionic has a little better arch support, I feel.
Just what I need for an upcoming trip to Italy. I think I’ll try the Taos ones.
Love the vessi black sneakers. I have worn them all over Europe in the rain and they still look new!
Your site is great for all things travel and daily wear. The Naturalizer and Ecco have proven to be best for my narrow, flat foot. Thank you for your time and commitment to help all of us.
I love white shoes but this makes so much sense
Awesome list! I’ve been wanting to grab a pair of black sneakers for work/life and need something super comfy for my tough feet. So many great choices here!
Haven’t given much thought to black sneakers for travel! Thanks for sharing and the great recommendations!
The Vionic sneaker has amazing arch support and got me through 9 days in Italy without blisters or tiredness!
Black shoes make so much sense. I’ve switched to them for exercise—why not travel!!
I love my black New Balance 327’s! They should be on the list!!! Also a brand (new to me!) called Samuel Edward make lovely shoes. I have their slip ons in “mushroom” but they also come in black. They are super comfy and light.
I love a good black sneaker. I wish more had a black sole to match.
This is so useful! I’ve looking for a pair of black tennis shoes and I think I found them thanks to this article! Thank you 🙂
Another great option, that also comes in wide width, is the Kizik Vegas!
Looking forward trying some of these, love that most don’t look like I’m ready for the gym.
I bought some black sneakers from Olukai and they have been very comfortable. I wear them all the time.
Great post, thanks for sharing!
I’m interested in the Vessi waterproof shoes. In 2019, I bought black, waterproof On Cloud shoes for my trip to Norway. I wore them almost every day on the trip and then when I got home. They were comfortable and convenient. I have another pair now that aren’t waterproof so I’m looking into getting some. Have very many of you tried them? Do they have good arch support?
Thanks for all the recommendations! I am making a list and seeing what can be delivered quickly in time for an upcoming trip to London!
I just ordered all blackAllegro style sneakers from Vivaia. They kept popping up on my Instagram so I decided to give them a try. Unfortunately their shipping is slower than slow so I won’t get them for a couple of weeks :(. I will report back.
Everyone’s feet are different but I found some Ecco black runners that are so comfortable but still kind of stylish.
I purchased the Dr. Scholl’s Madison Embossed Slip-On Sneakers for a 10 day trip around the UK last May and they were perfect!! Warm enough for those rainy days, but perfect in the cool sun also. There were comfortable and supportive for the entire trip. Thanks for the recommendations!!
I love the categories of articles that are so specific like this one, comfy black shoes. Brilliant!
I have black Hoka Bondi 7’s which I love. Also have black Aetrex Carly’s. I partially tore my Achilles’ tendon and both of these provide nice soft padding.
Love this article on shoes! I’ve had two foot surgeries so I appreciate brand suggestions. The Skechers Go Walk have been great for me!
I really like my all black Hoka Bondi 7s! So comfortable and black with black sole goes with anything!
Thank you for this blog piece. I read and reread until I settled on the Allbirds. They arrived and I cannot be happier.
Thanks for the great suggestion! I was looking for a black sneaker that would look good but also be comfy for travel walking. I decided on the Ecco Soft 7 Slip-On. I usually have trouble with fit due to a wider toe area but a narrow heel. These worked great and are very comfy. I do have to say though, I was so taken with the “Gravity Mettalic” color that I wound up with those rather than black afterall!
I was just on the hunt for new travel sneakers – thank you for sharing this list!
After reading blog- think I will get the Taos sneakers. They look to be very comfortable.
Love Vionic thongs- but their tennies have not worked for me!
Thanks for this list! I love the Ecco shoes! Always a great comfy choice.
I e used the Dr Scholla slip on sand have found them very comfortable.
Great post, thanks for sharing!
I’m looking for black sneakers that will be good for a lot of walking in Europe but also will look okay in slightly dressier situations (going out for dinner mostly). There are several good possibilities on this list!
I love my Tom’s lace up sneaks, light weight and super comfortable for walking around Europe. I will definitely give these slip-ons a try.
Very helpful ! Your shoe rec’s are the best!
Thanks for the recs! I’ve also been searching for a good pair of black shoes – something versatile that can be worn casually but aren’t toooo casual. I had been thinking of black leather slipons with a woven look . . .lo and behold, the Ecco ones look like they just might fit the bill!
I am a huge fan of the Dr Scholls Madison sneakers that I have three pairs now, I got the black camo, green camo which I wear daily to the gym or out and about and just recently bought the blue flower ones for wearing with shorts and dresses . I love the fact that I can pot my heel insert in the left shoe since my left leg is shorter due to an injury . Thanks for the recommendation. I have been a fan for years now.
I have a pair of Ecco Soft 5 zip lace shoes. Once you get the laces set the way you want, you can just unzip and zip for easy removal. They have a kind of croc look that’s a bit fancier than regular sneakers.
Hi Cheri, thank you for sharing your brand of black sneakers with us, they sound fantastic!! 🙂
I bought recently a pair of Sperry Crest vibe linen black slip ons with memory foam. Very comfortable shoes and also stylish.
Hi Ana, thank you for sharing your recommendation for Black sneakers, they sound very comfy!! 🙂
I recently purchased a pair of black slip on sneakers that are so comfortable and cute. I had tried many on this list and just couldn’t get a good fit. I would recommend these to anyone who’s foot is a narrow-medium. They are Ecco Soft 7 woven. They come in black and also a metallic gray/gold.
Hi Freda, thank you for sharing your recommendation for comfy black sneakers, really pleased you were able to find some that fitted well! Hope you enjoy them on many adventures! 🙂
Love my black Sketchers – so comfortable and go with everything
