Ecco Damara Ankle Gladiator Sandal
Written by: Sebrin Elms
As a travel blogger, I am constantly on the hunt for the best shoes that offer a mix of both fashion and function, which in my experience is difficult to find. So, imagine my surprise when I discovered the ECCO Damara Ankle Gladiator Sandal that offers everything I’m looking for in a comfy sandal.
Combining Scandinavian shoe style with a beachy look and comfortable, functional fabrics, the ECCO Damara Ankle Sandal is an incredibly soft and lightweight sandal that works for almost any type of traveler and style around the world. The thick straps make this sandal incredibly fashionable, while the materials make it one of the comfiest shoes in my closet.
As a frequent traveler looking for some serious support, this shoe cannot be beat. I hesitate to purchase comfort walking sandals as they often sacrifice style for function. However in this case, it appears that I am able to have both in one, versatile sandal. I’ve been wearing these nonstop in my Los Angeles hometown!
Style: Ecco Footwear Damara Ankle Gladiator Sandal
Material: This high-quality shoe is made with a direct-injected PU outsoles which is an incredibly lightweight material, making these sandals the perfect travel shoe. The footbed is covered with a microfiber and has leather uppers and leather lining.
Heel height: 1.25”
Color: The ECCO Damara Ankle Gladiator Sandal comes in multiple colors to suit your stylish needs including chili red, ombre, warm grey and black.
Travel Type: This is a great shoe for city touring, sightseeing, beachwear, carry-on only, warm destinations, and light hiking.
ECCO is known for its quality products, specifically it’s trademark FLUIDFORM design. This technology creates ergonomically advanced soles that creates a resilient, shock-absorbing material that isn’t normally compromised by glue or stitches found in other shoes. This premier invention results in a reliable and durable shoe, perfectly crafted for cushioning and balance.
Even before wearing these Ecco Damara Ankle Gladiator Sandal, you can just see the incredible integrity of the shoe by its high quality soles and straps. Thick fabrics, sturdy soles and fine craftsmanship prove these shoes will last quite some time.
Comfort and Mobility
While many vertical-strappy sandals lack a back strap, this Ecco Damara Ankle Gladiator Sandal design includes an ankle strap to keep your foot from sliding in and out all day. This way, you can focus on your surroundings and enjoying your travels instead of feeling like you’re going to slip out of your shoes.
According to other reviewers, the strap located closest to the ankle is incredibly roomy. I personally found the shoe size to be slightly big. However despite its slack, it still feels solid enough to stay put without sliding off.
The slight platform of the shoe not only provides ample cushioning, but the microfibers create a soft, heavenly bed to place your feet every time you step.
Sleek lines and muted colors create a Scandinavian-inspired sandal, one with minimal design and efficiency without sacrificing quality. However the beige tones and woven fabric near the ankle strap create an almost Hamptons-esque, beachy look to the shoe.
These sandals are incredibly airy while offering an ample amount of support. Similar to the look of Birkenstocks, large bands cover the foot vertically, but that’s probably where the comparison ends. This Ecco Damara Ankle Gladiator Sandal have an extra back band so that it’s not as easy to fall off the back of the foot, not to mention these cloth bands are made of leather and stretch slightly to provide significant comfort.
All of the materials used in this particular shoe make for the comfiest walk you ever did have. The microfibers in the sole of the shoe create a soft and comfortable bed for your feet, while the bands wrap loosely and comfortably. If you’re looking for a trendy and functional sandal, this Ecco Damara Ankle Gladiator Sandal not only brings you the look, but the comfort as well.
The price may be steep for sandals, but not for comfortable ones like this. It’s difficult to find a good looking shoe with such positive orthopedic benefits. It’s worth the investment if you’re looking for quality sandals that don’t compromise your health, especially if you have flat feet.
While I love the look of a thick, strappy sandal, the platform itself makes the Ecco Damara Ankle Gladiator Sandal look a tad orthopedic, thus a little less trendy than the Birkenstocks as earlier compared.
The shoe itself also runs a little big near the strap closest to the ankle. I’m a size 8 and occasional 8.5 with certain close-toed shoes, so I ordered the 8-8.5 option. The soles fit, but the straps are a tad loose. While the straps have never actually come off of my foot, it feels as if they are going to.
Despite the platform looking slightly orthopedic, I would definitely invest in this Ecco Damara Ankle Gladiator Sandal. As a traveler, I find it hard to find quality sandals that provide support for my flat feet while walking miles a day. I would, however, order a size down to make sure that the strap is just a little bit tighter.
