One of the most important aspects about choosing the best clothing for travel is to find items that weigh as little as possible. When you have 5-7kg of carryon suitcase weight restrictions, every ounce counts!
As you may know, these are what I consider the best travel pants for women, however, I’ve discovered another brand that also has some awesome options, too.
Have you heard of Athleta? If you haven’t, get it on your radar now because some of their clothing rocks for travel including their featherweight pant collection. Take a look!
Athleta Pants: Why They’re Awesome
Last year I spent four months traveling in India, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Thailand, and the Philippines. The Interlude pants by Athleta joined me on this trip and they were phenomenal.
The key factor the made these pants so good was their lightweight, breathable, and easy-to-wear fabric. I wore them for several days in a row (even a week when I couldn’t hand-wash) and they didn’t look dirty – even though they were filthy.
Unfortunately, since I got these pants on sale, they are now sold out HOWEVER I did scour this brand’s entire line and the below Athleta pants also feature the same super-fabric!
The perfect pants can help you minimize your travel wardrobe. Read more tips about how to create a functional but minimalist capsule wardrobe with Pack Light Stylishly!
City Jogger Pant

Wear them to workout, to sightsee, and to lounge – the City Jogger pants would make any long plane ride super comfortable. As a bonus, we love the Cobblestone Grey color, too! Grey clothing makes an easy transition from autumn all the way to summer.
Destination Wide Leg Pant

If slim fit or jogger isn’t your preferred pants style, the Destination Wide Leg pant is the one for you. LOVING the Jasper Green color. It is the neutral of the season and perfect for travel so stock up now! Wear it on a trip to South America or choose the nautical Navy for a European romp abroad.
Your Athleta pants will easily fit into your packing cubes.
Aspire Ankle Pant
Shop this item now!
You know when it’s a bit too hot for shorts but you want something a bit airier than full length pants? The Aspire Ankle pant comes to the rescue!
Start your day in Bali with a relaxing beach yoga session then ride a bicycle through Ubud’s rice paddies before ending the day with a visit to a beautiful temple. It doesn’t matter if you have time to go home and change because these will take you from 8am to 8pm in any warm and tropical destination.
La Viva Pant
Shop this item now!
The La Viva pant was the first pair of Athleta pants that I tried. I didn’t purchase the petite sizing and at 5’2″, the regular length drowned me as you may have seen in my  Stop Overpacking ecourse.
Love the fabric so if you’re looking for a relaxed comfortable fit to join you on safari in the Serengeti, make sure to add these to your packing list!
Aliso Pant
Shop this item now!
The Aliso is by far the most stylish of all the pants shown above and it’s currently on my travel fashion wishlist but because it’s on sale for $21.99 they have limited sizes available.
The Jasper color is fantastic and they seem to have a comfortable feel without a boxy look. As a plus, they look as if they’d easily be dressed up with heels or cute sandals or dressed down with trainers or flip flops. This is truly what versatile travel clothing is all about!
One of the other benefits of Athleta’s pants is that many of them are offered in petite and tall sizing. Yay!

Hi Alex, I love your blog and your travel recommendations! I really love the Anatomie Skyler pants, but they are out of my price point (hoping they magically have a sale before we leave). I was wondering if the athleta pants dry pretty quickly? We are planning an extended travel and that is definitely something I have to keep in mind. Thank you very much!
They do run sales quite frequently so make sure to keep an eye out for that! And yes, they typically dry within 24 hours in normal conditions! Lululemon pants also are fairly quick dry! Happy travels!
Gotta have some of these for my next trip! Visiting temples in Asia requires being a little more covered up but it’s beastly hot. Great solution!
They’re absolutely perfect for Southeast Asia!
I swear by my new Athleta Trekkie Pants! Comfy, lightweight, flattering and tons of pockets!
The following are my favorite travel pants from Athleta:
Brooklyn Ankle Pant
Endless Pant
Trekki Jogger
Venice Jogger
Salutation and Elation leggings
They are packable, breathable, dry quickly and are incredibly comfortable for travel. Lots of colors and sizes to complete your travel capsule!
Just what I needed! A site devoted to finding the most versatile clothing for travel!
I travel often in the USA with just a carry on and backpack but now going to Europe for 15 days I am bit stressed… until I found your site with such great suggestions!
Going to the Athleta site now =love that they offer Petite sizing and I have a chance to try them out before I commit to them!
Thanks Alex for such a great Website!
April
Thanks April! I love their extended sizing options, too 🙂
I was able to get a pair of the Interlude pant off eBay about a month ago – I also love their Bettona pants, and Costa shorts – I wore the shorts to the beach every day during my trip to Cancun, and they are just as quick-drying and lightweight as their pants.
They’re seriously so easy to travel with 🙂
They also have great leggings, these are thin and the heathered look makes them very flattering:

(I love the cranberry color, currently on sale!)
Thanks Megan, great tip!
It’s a different price point for sure, but I strongly recommend checking out the travel clothing at Betabrand! I ordered 3 pairs of pants recently, and I would love to do a review of them once they arrive if you’d like!! 🙂
That sounds great Lacey, thanks! Would love to learn more about how well they work on your travels.
So disappointing that they don’t offer a wider array for sizes when the majority of American women are over a size 14. They offer up to 16 — not really serving women, if you ask me.
Hi Allison, sorry to hear that. I know their sizing varies per style. I’ll let you know if I come across any styles. Thanks for reading!
Athleta has an awesome plus size selection as well!
Great suggestion Megan!
