How to Score the Best Amazon Prime Day Deals

In our experience, some Amazon Prime Day deals are worth it while others only offer a small savings. We love to save money wherever we can – make sure to focus on the products you’ll use repeatedly avoiding those that won’t get as much mileage.

Fast Prime shipping makes the shopping experience all the better. It’s super easy to shop and return things that don’t work just double check that returns are free before purchasing.

However, before you make any purchases, we’ve compiled a few tips on what to check to make sure you get the best deal possible.

Take Your Time to Compare

It’s easy to feel like you have to quickly buy something when it’s on sale, but avoid impulse purchases. If you really want a new Amazon e-reader but aren’t sure what model or style, compare the features rather than purchase the cheapest one available. Make sure that you actually want and need whatever it is you’re buying.

Prepare Ahead of Time

You can also avoid making impulsive or poor purchasing decisions by preparing ahead of time. I like to make a list of things I actually need or want to purchase.

I’ll shop ahead and get an idea of the brands or styles that I like and make a list. Then, on Amazon Prime Day, I see if those items (or similar ones) are on sale.

Know the Popular Deals

It’s also helpful to know the types of items Amazon typically discounts on Prime Day. The best discounts are usually on Amazon’s own products, from the Echo and Dot to its e-readers, TV sticks, and tablets.

There are usually deep discounts on big tech products, like televisions. Most people don’t realize that Amazon also offers great deals on smaller items, from clothing to accessories.

Create a Watchlist

On the Amazon app, you can create a watchlist where you can bookmark all the items you’re interested in purchasing. I do this before Prime Day because it will notify you if the item goes on sale or if it is added to an upcoming deal.

Watch for Lightning Deals

If you want to score the best deal possible, check out the deal of the day page on Amazon on Prime Day. These deals are usually only available for a few hours in limited numbers because they’re that good. If you see an item you like, purchase right away as these items sell out quickly.

Join the Waitlist

If something sells out that you wanted to purchase, don’t give up yet. Join the waitlist because you might get lucky. Once you join, you’ll receive an alert when the item is available again.

A lot of times, it may say the item has been 100% claimed because they’re in customers’ baskets. However, once a lightning deal has been in a basket for more than 15 minutes, it’s removed and goes back on sale, making it available to another customer.

Ask Alexa

If you use Alexa, you may be able to score top secret deals. Amazon has been known to reveal secret deals, as well as share ahead of time what deals will be available on Prime Day. It’s worth trying to see if you get lucky!

How Can I Access the Amazon Prime Day Sale?

Remember, the Amazon Prime Day sale isn’t available to everyone. Follow these steps before Prime Day so you can shop with ease on the day of the sale.

Join Prime

If you aren’t already a member, you have to join Amazon Prime in order to take advantage of the sale. I think it’s a great deal even if you don’t buy anything during the sale, as you not only get free two-day shipping on most items, but you also get access to their video streaming where you can watch hundreds, if not thousands, of TV shows and movies for free.

Amazon Prime is $99 per year. If you’re a student, you can get it for half the price. You can also get your first month free, so if you don’t want Prime, sign up for the trial and then cancel before the month ends.

Download the Amazon App

The Amazon app makes it easy to track deals and view them before they’re live on the site, so I recommend downloading it before Prime Day. I like to scan through it every day leading up to Prime Day to see what new things have been added.

Read Through the Prime Day Insider Guide

The Amazon Prime Day Insider Guide is a must-read for tips on how to make the most of Prime Day. It shows you how you can “watch” deals to keep track of them, as well as how to save more on special Amazon rewards.
